About
Mary Patton
Painter & Interior Designer
Known for her joyful, expressive approach to design, Mary Patton is an artist and interior designer whose work celebrates color, beauty, and the art of living well. Her paintings are a natural extension of her creative philosophy, exploring the joy found in nature through vibrant color, playful compositions, and a fresh perspective on the familiar.
Mary's artistic journey began at Southern Methodist University, where she majored in Studio Art with a concentration in painting and photography. She went on to study fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York City, working with iconic brands including Calvin Klein and Theory before launching her own bespoke handbag collection. Her experience in fashion sharpened her appreciation for color, pattern, texture, and composition — elements that continue to influence her creative work today.
Mary eventually brought this distinctive perspective to interiors, founding Mary Patton Design, an acclaimed Houston-based firm known for sophisticated yet approachable spaces that artfully blend modern and vintage pieces, fine art, and unexpected details.
After more than a decade creating beautiful spaces for others, Mary has returned to her first creative love: painting. Through Mary Patton Studio, she creates original paintings inspired by the natural world — particularly flowers and animals. Working primarily in gouache, her pieces celebrate the personality, color, and quiet magic found in nature. Her work is both whimsical and sophisticated, inviting viewers to find happiness in the unexpected and beauty in the ordinary.
“Art created to bring warmth, personality, and a little wonder into the spaces we inhabit.”
